Alright, while your first bucket is on Stage 2, and you cannot open it for the next 2 weeks.
Start setting up your Bokashi counter in your kitchen. You should have
- 2 temporary containers (1 for raw veggie/ fruit scraps and another 1 for cooked food )
- your 1.5 Liter Bokashi Pinoy Bran
- Buy your 2nd set of Bokashi Balde - for recommendations click here
Today we start bokashi-Ing leftover food.
the raw veggies/fruits require less bran than the cooked food and it also supplies live enzymes to our cooked food so that it is relatively easier for the microorganisms to digest our leftover food.
leftover food usually is not included in traditional composting but in bokashi, we can include it we just need to properly treat it by adding a generous amount of bran.
compress! compress! compress! every time! to expel air.
a little molasses/ brown sugar can be added. How little? Imagine that Molasses is the icing on your cake.. just draw a star on top. if its brown sugar... you may do the same with it.
adding Liquid Bokashi is OPTIONAL specially if you have added a generous amount of bran
If you accumulated 5 liters of food waste today - transfer it to your balde. If not, keep collecting food waste.
On the 2nd day, whether or not you have 5 liters. You have to transfer the contents to your balde already. During your open balde day - don't forget to drain/ harvest the Bokashi Leachate/ Juice/ Katas.
Ensure you label the temporary containers. Every night - audit the waste and ensure it is properly segregated.
Remember: Your first batch of kitchen waste should only be pure RAW veggie/ fruit scraps.
Your 2nd bucket may include leftover COOKED food
You may add raw trimmings of meat/fish/seafood into your 3rd balde (once both the 1st balde goes into Stage 3 and the 2nd balde goes into Stage 2.
