Day 12 - Collect Egg Shells for Stage 4

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

Good Morning Challengers!

This is how to deal with eggshells

1. Rinse the inside to remove the residual eggs.

2. Dry the eggshells (solarize, pan dry, or oven-dry).

3. Crush eggshells (hand-crushed, mortar and pestle, food processor, or coffee/spice grinder).

4. Collect and store in a dry container.

5. Mix crushed eggshells with your harvested finished (best if sifted) Bokashi compost.

Add them for stage 4, harvesting, and using of Bokashi compost to be mixed with soil.

The eggshells also act as ph buffer and as a calcium source for the plants. This is for after stage 3 when the compost has finished processing.

We do not have a scientific formula for this. But we sprinkle a handful of this as top dressing for tomatoes, basil, and other plants.

This will help to address the acidity of Bokashi compost harvested in the first few days. Ensure you add powdered egg shells before using the compost for plants that like a neutral /alkaline soil. For Acid loving plants - you do not have to add powdered egg shells.
