Day 2 of 30: Think Bokashi First!

Today is Day 2 - the excitement is still there! Fans of Nancy Drew Mysteries? IF not, never mind, - what we just want to do today is observe - no teaching, no

coaching, no nagging - This is your audit day! Check if the following are properly segregated.



Put the following in your ice cream container!


○Fruit, Vegetable Scraps

○Tea bags, coffee grounds

○Paper towels, tissue

(so they can be cut up, loaded in, compressed to exclude air and bokashi bran added)


○Beneficial microorganisms helps to breakdown the cell walls of food scraps. It

helps in faster decomposition. It helps plants to better absorb nutrients. It brings life back to the soil.



Exception: if you have a big volume of food waste (say 10 liters per day- you can put your food waste directly into the bucket)

For now – put the following in your normal biodegradable waste bin (we will bokashi this on your next round)

○ Meat, Fish Scraps

○ Prawn Shells, bacon rind

○ Bread, Cheese, leftover dinners

For now – put in your normal biodegradable waste bin (we will bokashi this on your next

round). I repeat, for your first batch, do not add meat, fish scraps, prawn shells, bacon rinds, bread, cheese and leftover cooked food in your Bokashi Balde yet. Learn the basics first.




THE REST IS GOING TO LANDFILL! – Rethink Buying!

○ Plastic or glass: can it be reused? Recycled? Made into ecobricks?

○ Batteries: put in box in garage for proper disposal.

○ Ink cartridges: Put in box in garage for proper disposal.

○ Metal: Is it recyclable? If MRF say’s No – put in garage for proper disposal.

○ Cardboard: Leave near recycle bin for use as mulching
