Before the Challenge

Updated: Aug 14, 2020

When you purchased the Bokashi Pinoy Starter Kit you are already sold to the idea that this is good for you and the environment - but chances are your family is not ready for the change yet. Here is how to get them on board.

WHAT TO DO:

Buy a gallon of Ice CREAM

Eat ice cream and Hold a Family Meeting

Watch the following videos with your family

- THE Soil Story

When your ice cream is finished, wash and dry the container and then add a layer of Bokashi IPA . Put the ice cream container in your kitchen sink

Just beside it put your Bokashi IPA in a bottle, take a family photo and then designate tasks

The person who does most of the cooking - will be in charge of segregating vegetable and fruit scraps and putting bran into the container

You (the advocate) is in charge of auditing/troubleshooting and emptying the contents of the temporary containers into the bokashi bin

Everyone needs to help in stage 3 - burying the compost -especially on your first round.

For the first 7 days of the challenge,

- You need a Bokashi Pinoy Bucket and 1.5 liter of Bokashi Ipa

For the 8th day up to the 22nd day

- You need a second Bokashi Pinoy bucket, additional 6 Liter Bokashi Ipa and a bottle of Molasses

If you do not have a yard to bury your fermented kitchen waste to

- You will need a 65 Liter plastic storage box and about 2 buckets of soil mix. View demo here

Unbox one of your Bokashi Bucket, these are the contents:

-Inner bucket with drainage holes

-Outer bucket with spout or faucet. Do not separate the inner and outer buckets, they are considered as 1 set.

-Printed instructions

Please ensure the faucet is closed. Best way to do that is to put water in the bottom bucket. Then open the faucet - then close it tightly. Now you know which way it is going for closing and opening. Dump out the water and then put them together again.

And finally, save this screenshot on a folder on your phone - so you can easily access it anytime, anywhere. Better yet, print it and put it in a binder or paste on a notebook:
